Sweet
Deals: School Fundraising Can be Healthy and Profitable
This 2007
report, details alternatives to traditional food based fundraisers, such
as candy and cookie sales. Sweet Deals puts forth the argument that
while school fundraisers are important for filling budget gaps and
paying for supplemental educational activities, schools should not
encourage poor nutrition through “junk food” sales. Instead, schools
should look to alternative activities that encourage healthy lifestyles
and physical activities, such as walk-a-thons, book fairs and recycling
fundraisers.
